Côte Sud Initiative: Introduction

The Côte Sud Initiative (CSI) is a new 20-year sustainable development initiative in the South Department of Haiti. The CSI is the proving ground for the theory, technology, and partnerships behind the HRI, put into practice in an integrated manner within a specific region. Launched in January 2011, the current focus of the CSI is on mobilization, partnership development and early practical action. The CSI is coordinated by the CSI Partnership, which as of September 2011 consisted of 11 organizations, including the Government of Haiti. The CSI has two interlinked goals:

  • The regeneration of the South Department over the period 2012−2032.
  • Demonstration of both thematic and integrated sustainable development solutions from the local to the departmental scale.

The geographic focus of the CSI is all 18 Communes of the South Department. The general focus is on achieving large-scale lasting change through a coordinated approach to sustained practical action. While the CSI aims to generally utilize well proven solutions, research and pilot projects will be integrated into the CSI where existing solutions are not available.
